Two faces, drawn without lifting the brush. The line starts at the hair on the left, runs down into an eye, becomes a nose, becomes a mouth, and finishes then the same thing happens again on the other side of the hole. Each face is one continuous stroke, which means the painter cannot pause to think and cannot go back. Look at the two and they are not the same face: the brows sit differently, the lashes number differently, one mouth is fuller than the other. The form is a flat ring, hand-shaped rather than thrown, with a narrow neck at the top and a hole through the middle that the wall behind it shows through. Glazed white and glossy, so it reads as one clean shape from across a room and only resolves into faces up close.

What Makes It

Each face drawn in one stroke no pencil line underneath, no lifting the brush. The two faces on this vase differ from each other and from every other vase in the batch.
Hand-shaped, not moulded the ring is formed by hand, so the circle isn't geometrically perfect and the wall thickness varies as you turn it. Set two side by side and the holes aren't the same size.
Flat profile it sits close against a wall or on a narrow shelf where a round vase wouldn't fit.
Built for dried stems pampas, bunny tails, dried palm. The narrow neck holds a loose arrangement upright without a frog or foam.
Glazed white throughout glossy and non-porous on the outside, so it wipes clean and the black line stays black.

The Craft

The clay comes from the Ourika valley outside Marrakech, and the vase is shaped by hand rather than thrown a ring form has no axis of rotation, so a wheel is no use to it. It's built, smoothed, dried, fired, glazed, and fired again. The painting happens last, and it's the part with no margin: a continuous-line face is a single gesture, and the painter either lands it or scraps the piece. Practice is what makes the stroke look effortless, and the evidence that it wasn't is in how the two faces on the same vase come out differently.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth, or a barely damp one on the glaze. No abrasive pad on the painted faces. If you use fresh flowers, check first whether the interior is glazed an unglazed inside needs a waterproof liner. Keep out of prolonged direct sun.

What's Included

One hand-built vase. Stems not included. Wrapped and packed in a protective outer box. One Origin Passport card with a QR code scan it to see the workshop in Marrakech, the GPS coordinates where the vase was made, the technique, and photographs of the faces being painted. The passport stays with the piece permanently, including if you pass it on.

Where do you ship, and how long does it take?

Worldwide from Morocco via DHL Express with full tracking, and shipping is free. Ready-to-ship orders are dispatched within 3 business days and arrive in 7 to 12 business days. Made-to-order pieces add their crafting time, shown on the product page.

Who pays customs and duties?

Duties and taxes are included on orders shipped to the United States, with nothing to pay on delivery. For all other destinations, import duties and taxes are not included and are collected on delivery.

Can I cancel or return an order?

Cancel within 24 hours of ordering, before fulfillment. Returns are free within 14 days: email us and we handle the pickup and the full refund. Made-to-order pieces are non-returnable unless they arrive damaged or not as described.

Is it really handmade?

Yes. Every piece is made by hand and carries an Origin Passport recording its city and craft. The maker is named when they have agreed to it.

How are the makers paid?

Kilimy is an artisan-owned model. The maker keeps the majority of each sale; our share covers processing, handling, and shipping.
