Closed white Moroccan tagine with a conical lid painted in a black star lattice, 23 cm base

Like a Dutch Oven. Only Better.

Think of the tagine as the ultimate upgrade to your favorite slow cooker. The secret is the conical lid. Instead of letting moisture escape or pool at the sides, the cone forces steam to condense and continuously rain back into the center. Your chicken, lamb, and vegetables gently simmer in their own concentrated juices. You get fall-apart tenderness with zero active babysitting.

One pot, every step of the meal

Oven and stovetop

Cook in the oven at normal cooking temperatures, or on a gas or electric stovetop. A heat diffuser on the stove helps it last longer.

Microwave and dishwasher

Reheat leftovers in it, then put it in the dishwasher. No hand-washing rules to remember.

Moroccan Tagine, White Fès Ceramic, Oven and Dishwasher Safe, 23 cm

No seasoning needed

Unlike many clay tagines, it needs no curing before first use. Wash it and start cooking.

Why it can take the heat

Why this Fès tagine can go in the oven

Fès white ceramic is glazed pottery made in Fès (also spelled Fez), Morocco, from the region's pale clay. This tagine is made with a thicker body than Fès tableware, so it can take oven cooking without cracking, according to the maker and our artisan team.

The tall cone-shaped lid returns steam to the dish as it cooks, so meat and vegetables cook slowly in their own juices. A small steam hole near the top of the lid lets extra pressure out.

Size

How big is it?

The base is 23 cm (9 in) across and 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in) deep. With the lid on, the tagine stands 22 cm (8.7 in) tall, so check the height against your oven rack before you cook.

  • Base diameter: 23 cm (9 in)
  • Base depth: 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in)
  • Height with lid: 22 cm (8.7 in)
  • Heat sources: oven, gas or electric stovetop, microwave
  • Not for: induction cooktops

What to cook in it

  • Chicken tagine with preserved lemon and olives: the classic, cooked slowly under the lid until the chicken falls from the bone.
  • Lamb tagine with prunes and almonds: a slow oven braise, served at the table in the same pot.
  • Kefta tagine with eggs: meatballs in tomato sauce, with eggs cracked in at the end.
  • Vegetable tagine: carrots, potatoes, zucchini and chickpeas with ras el hanout.

Serve it with bread for scooping, or next to a plate of couscous.

Painted by hand

The pattern

The lid is painted with a black lattice of interlaced stars on white. Inside the base, a star rosette sits in the center, framed by bands of a stepped key pattern and a fine looping line.

Mohamed Cheriff A. paints every line by hand, so the pattern differs slightly from one tagine to the next. Kilimy verified the maker and the city in September 2026.

A gift for someone who cooks Moroccan food

For the friend who cooks tagine on Sundays, or who came back from Morocco wanting to cook what they ate there, this is a tagine they will actually use: it goes in the oven, the microwave and the dishwasher, with no curing ritual before the first meal. It arrives with an Origin Passport naming Mohamed Cheriff A. and Fès.

Pair it with the matching Fès couscous serving plate: cook in the tagine, serve the couscous on the plate. Gift wrapping with a note can be added after purchase, and US orders arrive with duties and taxes already paid.

Use and care

  • First use: wash the base and lid, dry them, and cook. No curing or seasoning is needed.
  • On the stovetop: start on low to medium heat. A heat diffuser between the burner and the tagine spreads the heat and helps it last longer.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes: do not move a hot tagine onto a cold surface or into cold water, and handle it with oven gloves, because the ceramic gets hot.
  • Cleaning: dishwasher safe, or wash by hand with warm, soapy water.
  • Not for induction: a ceramic tagine does not heat on an induction cooktop.

Questions

Can a Moroccan ceramic tagine go in the oven?

This one can. It is made with a thicker Fès white ceramic body so it can take oven cooking at normal cooking temperatures. Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as putting a hot tagine on a cold surface.

Can I use this tagine on a gas or electric stove?

Yes. Start on low to medium heat. A heat diffuser between the burner and the tagine is recommended, because it spreads the heat and helps the tagine last longer.

Does it work on induction?

No. A ceramic tagine does not heat on an induction cooktop.

Is this tagine dishwasher and microwave safe?

Yes. It can go in the dishwasher, and you can reheat food in it in the microwave.

Do I need to season this tagine before first use?

No. Unlike many clay tagines, it needs no curing or seasoning. Wash it, dry it and start cooking.

How big is this tagine?

The base is 23 cm (9 in) in diameter and 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in) deep, and it stands 22 cm (8.7 in) tall with the lid on.

Why can the tagine go in the oven when the Fès plate cannot?

The tagine is made with a thicker ceramic body than Fès tableware, which lets it take oven heat. The Fès serving plate is made for serving and should not go in the oven.

Is every tagine exactly the same?

No. Mohamed Cheriff A. paints each tagine by hand in Fès, so the stars and borders differ slightly from one piece to the next.

Is it a good gift for someone who loves Moroccan cooking?

Yes. It cooks in the oven or on the stove, serves at the table, goes in the dishwasher, and needs no seasoning. It arrives with an Origin Passport naming the maker, and US orders arrive with duties and taxes already paid.

Even more beautiful in person

The pieces look even more beautiful in person, especially when they are lit. The fact that you noticed the crack during your final quality check and chose to replace the piece rather than send it to me says a lot about the standards you have for your work. The letter from you and the certificate of verified origin were also a wonderful touch.
