About this piece

Made by Hand in Marrakech

Mohamed Ourika throws this pitcher on a wheel in his Marrakech workshop, then paints it by hand — stroke by stroke — in the warm earth palette that defines the city he works in. Saffron yellow. Burnt terracotta. Deep black line work that traces botanical forms across the belly of the vessel. No transfer. No stencil. A brush, a hand, and thirty years of practice.

The form is classic Moroccan — a wide-bellied body that narrows at the neck, a sturdy handle, a generous pour spout. The proportions have been refined over centuries of Moroccan ceramic tradition, and Mohamed works within that tradition without imitation. The plants he paints are not copied from a reference. They live in his hand.

What Makes It

  • Hand-thrown ceramic body — wheel-thrown by Mohamed himself, which is why the walls have a slight variation in thickness that a factory mold never produces
  • Hand-painted botanical motifs — flowing leaf and floral forms painted freehand in saffron, terracotta, and black
  • Marrakech earth tones — the warm palette of the city's clay, sun, and shadow
  • Functional pour spout and sturdy handle — shaped for daily use, not just display

Care Instructions

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that may wear the painted surface. Not dishwasher safe. The glaze is food-safe, but hand-painted ceramics last longest when treated gently.
