Twenty-five centimetres tall with a 1.5-litre capacity, this Moroccan ceramic pitcher is made to sit comfortably between everyday function and decorative craft. Mohamed Ourika throws the body on a wheel in his Marrakech workshop, shaping the wide belly, narrowed neck, generous pour spout, and sturdy handle by hand before painting the surface stroke by stroke. The result is a vessel with the proportions of a traditional Moroccan pitcher and the character of something made by one particular pair of hands.

Deep cobalt blue covers the ceramic, while hand-painted botanical forms travel around the belly of the vessel. Fan-like leaves, flowing stems, geometric borders, and dark line work create a pattern that changes as it follows the curve. The glaze brings depth to the blue, catching light across the rounded body and giving the pitcher a presence that works just as well on a dining table as it does on an open shelf.

With 1.5 litres of capacity, it is sized for serving water, juice, iced tea, or other cold drinks at the table. The Craft

Mohamed Ourika works in Marrakech, where Moroccan ceramic decoration is learned through years of repetition and practice. He begins with the form itself, throwing the pitcher on the wheel and refining the proportions as the clay rises from the broad lower body into the narrower neck.

Once the form is ready, the decorative work is applied by hand. The botanical motifs are built from individual brushstrokes leaves, fan shapes, curved stems, geometric bands, and dark outlining rather than transferred onto the surface mechanically. Because the brush follows a rounded vessel, no two sections of the pattern are perfectly identical.

The final glaze gives the blue its depth and protects the decorated ceramic beneath it. What you see is therefore not simply a printed pattern on a pitcher, but the result of several stages of work: shaping the clay, refining the form, painting the decoration, and firing the finished vessel.
