About this piece
A Vessel Rooted in Moroccan Hospitality
In Moroccan households, the salsabil — the ceramic water dispenser — has anchored the ritual of welcome for centuries. Mohamed Ourika crafts his version in Marrakech, drawing on the blue-and-white palette that made Fès famous. Standing 52 centimeters tall with a lidded top, looped handle, and pedestal base, this vessel holds enough water for a full table of guests. The orange tap at the base is the one concession to the functional present. Everything else is tradition.
Fassi Patterns, Painted by Hand
Mohamed paints each vessel freehand in cobalt blue on a white ceramic ground — the same color combination that has defined Moroccan prestige ceramics for five centuries. His patterns are drawn from the Fassi decorative vocabulary: interlocking arches, dot-work fields, botanical sprigs, geometric border bands. No stencils. No transfers. Just steady hands and a practiced eye.
