Hand-Thrown Ceramic Vase, Marrakech, multicolo

Twenty-four centimetres tall, this is a sculptural Moroccan vase shaped around a simple idea: let the form do the work. Mohamed Ourika throws each piece on the wheel in his Marrakech workshop, pulling the clay into a wide curved body, narrowing it through the waist, and bringing it back up into the distinctive split neck. The result is a silhouette with presence even before anything is placed inside it.

A single deep glaze — black or terracotta red follows the entire form without competing with it. The black reads architectural and grounded. The terracotta red brings warmth. Both are the same handmade object: the same wheel, the same technique, the same workshop, expressed in two different registers.

Fill the two necks with dried pampas grass or leave the vase empty as a sculptural object on a shelf, console, or side table. At 24cm high, it is substantial enough to anchor a composition without overwhelming the space.
