About this piece
About This Set
Mohamed Ourika paints these cups by hand — each one, individually, in the multicolor botanical style that defines Marrakchi ceramic tradition. Red, blue, yellow, green. Leaf forms, geometric borders, flowing line work. The tray that comes with them carries the same motifs, scaled to the rectangular form, so the three pieces read as one composed object on a kitchen counter or a breakfast table.
The cups are small — 6 centimeters wide, 11.5 centimeters tall — the right size for a double espresso or a short Moroccan coffee. The tray is 19 by 23 centimeters, enough to hold both cups with room between them. Together they make the act of serving coffee something worth looking at.
The Craft
Mohamed works in Marrakech, where ceramic painters learn their motifs through years of repetition — first copying, then interpreting, then inventing within the vocabulary of the tradition. His botanical style draws from centuries of Moroccan decorative art, but each cup receives its pattern freehand, so no two are identical at the level of individual brushstroke.
