About this piece
A Sphere of Light, Cut by Hand
Place a candle inside Amzil's brass globe and watch what happens to the room. Every triangle he cut by hand becomes a point of light. The walls fill with geometry. The ceiling catches patterns that have lived in Moroccan architecture for centuries — now scaled down to sit on a dining table, a nightstand, a shelf. This is not ambient lighting. This is a room transformed.
Amzil works from a workshop in the medina of Marrakech, where he has practiced the art of hand-pierced metalwork for years. The globe form is deceptively demanding — unlike a flat surface, a sphere has no straight lines, no easy angles. Every cut must follow the curve. Every triangle must align with the next. The result is a surface so dense with geometry that when light passes through it, the darkness outside becomes as detailed as the brass itself.
What Makes It
- Hand-pierced brass sphere — every geometric opening cut individually by hand, following the curve of the globe
- 360° light projection that casts intricate patterns across walls and ceilings
- Designed for use with a tea light or small candle
- Crafted in the medina of Marrakech using traditional metalwork techniques
Care Instructions
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth to maintain the brass finish. Over time, the brass will develop a natural patina — this is part of its character. If you prefer the original shine, polish occasionally with a brass-safe cleaner. Never submerge in water. Always place on a heat-resistant surface when lit.
