Look at the inside of the basin and count the marks. Every one of them is a hammer strike thousands of them, laid down by hand across the full 48cm of the bowl until the flat sheet of brass became a curve. That texture is not a finish applied at the end. It is the record of how the sink was made. Over it, the artisan has engraved a scrolling pattern that radiates from the drain outward and then repeats around the wide flat rim, cut into the metal with a chisel rather than etched with acid. This is Marrakech, where brass has been worked cold in the same medina workshops for generations. The metal is heavy in the hand, cool to the touch, and throws warm light back into the room.

What Makes It

Raised from a single sheet the bowl is not cast or pressed. A flat disc of brass was hammered down into a curve over a form, strike by strike, which is why the wall thickness varies almost imperceptibly across the basin and why the hammer texture is denser where the metal had to move furthest.
Hand-engraved, not etched the scrollwork on the rim and around the drain is cut into the surface with a chisel. Run a finger across it and the lines have depth and a raised burr edge. An acid-etched pattern would feel flat.
Solid brass through and through not plated, not brass-coloured. The colour goes all the way through the metal, which means scratches don't reveal a different material underneath and the whole surface can be polished back at any point in its life.
It will change, and that's the point left alone, brass darkens with water and use into a deeper tone that settles unevenly, holding light in the hammered marks. Polished regularly, it stays bright gold. Both are correct. The choice stays yours for as long as you own it.

The Craft

Moroccan brass is worked cold. There is no furnace and no mould the metal is moved entirely by hammer, which means the craftsman is controlling a material that hardens as he works it and will split if he pushes it past what it can take. Raising a basin this wide without tearing the brass or thinning it unevenly is among the more demanding things a Marrakech metalworker does. The engraving is a separate discipline again: the chisel cannot be reversed, so every scroll around that rim was cut correctly on the first pass. Between the raising and the engraving, a piece this size represents days of work by hand, not hours.
