Twenty-four inches square and eight inches high, this handwoven Moroccan kilim pouf brings the geometric language of Amazigh weaving into a form made for everyday living. Woven from natural sheep wool by Kalthoum EJ. in her Tiznit workshop, the surface is built around a rich burnt-orange ground crossed by diamonds, zigzags, linear bands, and small geometric forms in black, cream, red, and natural wool tones.

The pattern is not printed onto the fabric. It is built into the textile as the wool is woven, so every motif becomes part of the structure itself. The dense kilim weave gives the pouf a firm, tactile surface while the irregularities in the wool and geometry preserve the evidence of the hand behind it.

Arriving unstuffed, the pouf gives you control over how it feels and how firmly it sits. Fill it with old blankets, textiles, recycled fabrics, foam scraps, or other soft materials you already have at home. Use it as a floor cushion, meditation seat, footrest, casual stool, or low ottoman a piece that moves easily from one purpose to another.

What Makes It

Woven, not printed the geometric motifs are created directly through the interlacing of wool threads, making the pattern part of the textile rather than a surface decoration.

The Craft

Kalthoum EJ. works in Tiznit, drawing on the weaving knowledge passed through generations of Moroccan textile makers. The pouf is constructed using a traditional loom, where the warp and weft are interlaced to create a dense kilim fabric.

The geometric vocabulary emerges thread by thread. Diamonds, angular lines, zigzags, and repeated forms are built directly into the weave rather than added afterward. This means the design belongs to the structure of the textile itself: turn the piece over and you are looking at woven construction, not a printed surface.

The character of a handmade kilim comes from this process. Wool fibres vary naturally, tension changes slightly across the loom, and individual motifs are never mechanically identical. Those small differences are part of the beauty of the piece and the reason a handwoven textile feels different from a factory-made reproduction.

Care

Vacuum gently using a low-suction setting to refresh the wool surface. For small marks, spot clean carefully with cool water and mild soap without soaking the textile. Air dry flat and away from direct sunlight. Rotate the pouf periodically to encourage even wear and avoid placing it in consistently damp conditions.

Natural wool may show small variations in colour, texture, pile, and weave tension. These are characteristic of handwoven Moroccan textiles and should be expected as part of the piece's handmade character.

Yes. Every piece is made by hand and carries an Origin Passport recording its city and craft. The maker is named when they have agreed to it.

How are the makers paid?

Kilimy is an artisan-owned model. The maker keeps the majority of each sale; our share covers processing, handling, and shipping.
