About this piece
For thirteen years, Abdelhak Cheriff has worked clay in the pottery quarter of Safi, where the Atlantic winds dry his terracotta creations under Morocco's bright sun. His hands shape each egg plate from local clay, molding twelve perfect wells that cradle eggs like precious stones in their earthen beds.
What Makes It
- Hand-molded terracotta from Safi's renowned clay
- Hand-painted patterns applied with careful brushstrokes
- Holds 12 eggs in perfectly sized wells
- Food-safe glazed finish with natural variations
- Ready to ship from verified artisan
The Craft
Abdelhak's process begins at dawn, kneading terracotta until it yields to his vision. He shapes each well by hand, ensuring eggs rest securely without rolling. After the first firing, he applies paint with brushes worn smooth by years of use, creating patterns that echo Morocco's geometric heritage. A final glaze seals the colors beneath a protective sheen.
Details
Each plate measures to accommodate standard eggs comfortably. The terracotta breathes naturally, keeping contents at ideal serving temperature. Hand washing preserves the painted details for years of gathering around your table.
