About this piece
A Ritual of Welcome in Hammered Brass
This traditional hand-washing set preserves one of Morocco's most gracious hospitality rituals—the ceremonial cleansing of hands before a shared meal. Standing 100 cm tall with a 45 cm diameter tass basin, the brass pitcher and basin pair transforms a functional gesture into a moment of welcome, honoring guests with water poured over their hands into the generous catch bowl below.
Crafted in Marrakesh's Old Medina
Mehdi Ba., a second-generation brass artisan, creates each set in his Marrakesh workshop, where eight years of dedicated practice inform every hammer strike. Working with his four-person team, Mehdi hand-shapes brass sheets into vessels that balance heritage form with contemporary presence. The metal surface bears the subtle texture of hand-hammering, a technique passed through generations of Moroccan metalworkers.
Care Instructions
- Wipe brass with a soft, dry cloth after each use
- Polish occasionally with brass cleaner to maintain luster
- Avoid abrasive materials that may scratch the hammered surface
- Natural patina will develop over time, adding character to the piece
