About this piece
The Artisan Story
In the medina workshops of Fès, master glassblowers breathe life into recycled glass, transforming discarded bottles into vessels that hold both flowers and centuries of Moroccan craft tradition. This beldi glass vase emerges from the furnace with the soft, organic curves that only human hands can shape—each one a testament to the glassblowing lineages passed down through generations in Morocco's spiritual capital.
Materials & Craft
Each vase begins as recycled green glass heated to molten perfection in wood-fired furnaces. The artisan gathers the glowing material on a blowpipe, breathing controlled puffs of air while rotating and shaping the glass with wooden tools and wet newspaper. The beldi technique—meaning "traditional" or "of the country"—produces glass with character: gentle bubbles trapped in time, subtle thickness variations, and that unmistakable hand-formed silhouette. The rich green hue shifts from deep forest to pale mint as light moves through it, creating a living presence on your table or windowsill.
